Photo 1This photo was taken at Clark University in Worchester, MA. It contains many compositional elements including line, shape, positive and negative space, pattern, and depth. There are a few different types of lines such as the bricks, the window panes, and the shadows from the light coming through the window. The bricks on the wall create a pattern in the photo. Also, this photo shows depth through the leading lines that lead your eyes to the back of the photo where the door is. I used a regular shutter speed for this shot because nothing was moving. This photo has a large depth of field and nothing is blurry. I also converted this picture into black and white. The ISO was 32 and the since I used my phone to take this picture, I just tapped the screen to get the correct lighting. My point of view was from a standing position and the story behind this photo is that I took it the first time I visited my sister at college.

I took this photo in the school during our Motion project. The compositional aspects of this photo include line, shape, point of view, use of triangles, and leading lines. As you can see, the lines in this picture are the metal rods of the umbrella and the pole of the umbrella. I used a very fast shutter speed for this photo (1/1000 sec). I kept this picture in color because I liked how the umbrella was rainbow and the colors popped. I put the ISO on 6400 to make sure the photo wasn't too dark. The contrast in this picture is between the darker colors on the right and the brighter colors on the left as well as the silver rods. My point of view for taking this picture was underneath. I had someone twirl the umbrella above me while I sat on the floor and pointed the camera up and the umbrella.

This photo was taken during the "Painting with Light" project. I took this picture using a very slow shutter speed. We shut the lights off in the auditorium, and then I swung Christmas lights around in a circle while taking the picture. I used a slow shutter speed so the most amount of light would be allowed into the camera lens so the whole light effect could be captured. I also walked slightly forward while taking this photo so I could create a larger sense of depth. The ISO used for this picture was 100 and there was a small depth of field because the aperture was set to 3.5. I decided to keep this photo in color so we are able to see the lights. Although, the colors in this picture are not the original colors. I changed the colors in this photo by opening the picture up in photoshop and adjusting the hue until the colors in the photo changed to how I wanted them. The compelling subject matter in this photo in my opinion, are the two exit signs in the back. When taking the picture, I tried to make a circle right between the two signs, which ended up working.

I took this photo during the "Favorite Object" project. For this project we had to take six photos of one of our favorite objects. I decided to take pictures of my friend Sara's boots, even though they are not my favorite object, I thought they would be a nice object to photograph because they have many visually pleasing details. This picture has many compositional aspects such as line, shape, texture, and point of view. The point of view on this object was straight on, because I wanted to capture the details of the laces on the boots. The ISO for this photo was set to 1600 so the photo would not be too dark. The White Balance was set to fluorescent because when I took these photos I put the boots under the lights in the digital photography room. In this photo there is texture from the laces, as well as the boot itself, and the white lace on the sides of the boots. There is contrast between the dark brown boots and the white background.

This photo was also taken at Clark University in Worchester, MA. I took this picture for the "Lines and Shape" project which was the first project that we did this year. It contains many compositional elements such as lines, shapes, positive and negative space, point of view, and depth. I converted this photo to black and white to enhance the darkness of the lines on the stairs and the white background. I took this picture from the top of the stairs to create depth of going down the stairs. I used my phone to take the picture and the ISO was set to 32. To get the correct lighting, I tapped in the middle of my screen. This photo contains a large depth of field because you are able to see all the way to the back of the photo and nothing is blurry. There is a large contrast between the dark stairs and the cement at the bottom of the stairs as well as the brick building to the right of the stairs. The strong point of this photo is the many lines from the stairs and the railing.

This photo was taken in my backyard at my house. I took this picture for the "Pattern, Texture, and Rhythm" project. For this project all of the photos had to be converted to black and white, which is why this one is not in color. This photo contains texture from the tree bark as well as the smoother branches and the small leaves in the background. I decided to take this picture from a very low point of view and very close to the tree to emphasize the texture of the tree bark. I used an ISO of 40 since it was already light outside. There is a small depth of field because the aperture was set to 2.2 and because only the front of the picture is in focus and the background is a little blurry. The exposure is 1/40 seconds. There is contrast in this photo between the dark tree bark and the light tree bark. There is also contrast between the entire tree itself and the light in the background coming through the leaves from the sun.

I took this photo for the Painting with Light project. To take this picture I went in the auditorium where it was really dark, and then I swung Christmas lights around in a circle. The shutter speed was set really slow so the camera could capture all the light. The ISO used for this picture was 100 and there was a small depth of field because the aperture was set to 3.5. I kept this photo in color because I really liked the color of the lights when I edited it on Photoshop by changing the hue until it became a purple color. The compelling subject matter in this picture is the cluster of darker purple lines in the middle of the larger circle.
Photo 8
I took this photo for the Expressive Light project, and edited it for the double exposure project. The picture I took of Aliscia is a representation of "Mother Nature" because she has flowers in her hair and a long white cloth over her. I changed the original portrait to black and white to show a larger contrast between her dark hair and her face. For the double exposure assignment I created a new layer and used a photo that I took for a previous assignment (Photo 7), and applied it on top of the portrait to create double exposure. I then blended the two pictures together to get her face to have the same texture as the tree.
Photo 9
This photo was taken for my photo essay. It was taken at a beach in Marion, MA. I used it for my photo essay because it is gymnastics and my whole photo essay was about gymnastics. I changed it to black and white mainly because the rest of my photo essay was in black and white. The photo contains line, shape, and contrast. The contrast is between my legs and the dark water in the background. The ISO is the automatic setting because it was taken on a phone.

This photo was taken for the motion assignment in front of the school. To take this picture I rode the scooter across the pavement while my partner panned the camera with a slow shutter speed. Using the slow shutter speed allowed the camera to capture all the motion. Also, the camera focused on myself, so I would be clear and the background would be blurry. The ISO for this picture was set to 800. The compelling subject matter is myself on the scooter because it is the one subject in the photo that is completely clear.
